Police say James Bay Community School is safe after the school was under a "hold and secure" following a police incident in the neighbourhood.

According to an SD61 spokesperson, the school was placed in a hold and secure at around 10:40 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 15 after a nearby incident prompted a large police response.

A hold and secure is when students and faculty are to remain in the building while doors stay locked. The school was in the hold and secure for about 10 minutes before reopening.

"As a precaution, officers secured the school grounds while the situation was addressed. Investigators are now actively working on the file, and we can confirm that the school is safe," noted a VicPD spokesperson.

No further details about the incident were shared.
