WASHINGTON -- Soccer fans across the world were glued to America's capital Friday to discover the groups for next summer's FIFA World Cup in North America.
The draw took place from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to determine 12 groups of four teams for the group stage round of the tournament. Next year will be the first World Cup to feature 48 nations and we know 42 of them that will play in next summer's tournament. The last six will be determined in March.
While each group games' dates and locations are known, the exact schedule will not be announced until Saturday at noon. Hosts Kevin Hart, Heidi Klum and Danny Ramirez were joined by Wayne Gretzky, Aaron Judge, Shaquille O'Neal and Tom Brady to draw the names.
The groups are set and the United States will play Paraguay in their opening match. Their group is filled out by Australia and the winner of the European play-off C (Turkiye, Romania, Slovakia or Kosovo).
